Can you feel it? The mornings are crisp, and that means it's time to start holiday sewing, the relaxed kind where you aren't racing the calendar. Our new Frost & Fir prints from Art Gallery Fabrics just arrived. They're full of tiny snowglobes, skiers and soft wintry colors that make me want to put the kettle on.

I like to start one small holiday project before the busy season hits, something I can finish in a weekend and enjoy all winter. This year it's a snowglobe table runner, and I've written out the steps below so you can sew along with me.

❄️ Weekend Project: Frost & Fir Snowglobe Table Runner ❄️

A little runner (about 11" × 49") that frames five snowglobes like tiny pictures on a wall. If you can sew a straight ¼" seam, you can make this.

  1. Fussy-cut your snowglobes. From Snowglobe Scenes, cut five 4½" squares, each with one snowglobe centered.
  2. Frame each one. From Snow Speckle, cut four 2½" strips across the width of the fabric. Sub-cut ten 2½" × 8½" pieces and ten 2½" × 4½" pieces. Sew the short pieces to the sides of each snowglobe square, then the long pieces to the top and bottom, for five 8½" blocks.
  3. Add the sashing. From Pure Solids in Aero Blue, cut five 2" strips. Cut six 2" × 8½" pieces and sew them between and at both ends of your row of blocks. Join the remaining strips end to end and cut two 2" × 49½" strips for the long sides.
  4. Quilt and bind. Layer with a 17" × 55" backing and batting, then quilt straight lines ¼" from each seam. Bind with four 2½" strips of Aero Blue.

Teacher tip: When you fussy-cut, lay a clear 4½" square ruler right on top of the print so you can see exactly what will land in your block before you cut. No guessing and no wasted snowglobes!

What you'll need: ½ yd Snowglobe Scenes, ½ yd Snow Speckle, 1 yd Pure Solids in Aero Blue, 1 yd backing (Ski Run or Alpine Mountain would be lovely), and a 17" × 55" piece of batting. All of our yardage is sold in half-yard increments. Bonus: you'll have plenty left over for coordinating pot holders, coasters or mug rugs.
